Mimicking brain development
Nerve Cells
Nerve cells or neurons are the basic unit of the nervous system. Nerve cells send signals among the brain, spinal cord and other body organs via electric nerve impulses. A neuron consists of two major parts: a cell body and nerve processes. Nerve processes are axons and dendrites that transmit electric signals to and from other cells.
We have long experience in differentiating different types of neuronal cells from embryonic stem cells and have also developed robust methods for growing brain organoids and long term culture. These organoids mimic brain development in vitro and are promising for studying human disease and development.
